The problem with the American system is the rip-off insurance companies which steal 25% or more
of insurance premiums off the table
before any healthcare gets done. No one wants to get rid of the private enterprise system. The problem is insurance company monopolies which over charge the insureds and refuse to cover everyone causing the
taxpayer to pick up the tab by medicaid
and medicare for the uninsured.
Mr. Obama is trying to halt this rip-off
not socialize the medical delivery system in this country. Monopolies are
bad, they are anti-free enterprise but
that is what we have now and the main reason healthcare is so expensive in this country. A single
payer system would elliminate the
middlemen and direct more health care dollars to treating patients instead of into the pockets of rippoff
middlemen who contribute nothing to
healthcare.

One fact few people know of is that insurance companies can secretly harass and extort any amount of money from any doctor who performs services that raise the bar on care; insurers want all healthcare providers to be sub-par/average/viewed as a commodity. There are plenty of “consumer” protection laws but no laws to protect doctors. Why? The insurance companies have “paid-off” the politicians via campaign contributions and other perks.

The whole thing ensures a substandard level of care. Meanwhile, any insurer who has claimed to have paid said-doctor has actually not paid the doctor; the doctor’s patients all get mailed EOB statements clamining payment yet teh doctor has not been paid… and all premiums taken-in from the insured policyholders get unlawfully and secretly kept by the insurer – a double-dip profit-making scenario or “legalized, organized-crime”, if you will.
