At least one person was killed in a shooting at a 16-story downtown Orlando office building Friday. There were at least 5 wounded who were transported to a local hospital.

Jason Rodriguez, 40, was identified as the suspect. His 2002 silver Nissan SUV was located in Orange County at Hollowbrook Apartments on Curry Ford Road. Around 2:20pm, aerial video from Skywitness 9 showed a man in handcuffs being led out of an apartment and Eyewitness News sources say it is Rodriguez.

Sources tell Eyewitness News that the suspect’s mother tipped off police to her son’s whereabouts at the Hollowbrook Apartment unit where he was located.

Reynolds, Smith & Hills company spokesman Mike Bernof told CNN all the people shot were in the firm’s office. He could not say if any died.

Rodriguez, an engineer, was released in June 2007 for performance issues, Bernof said. He could not say why. The firm performs transportation engineering work with the Florida Department of Transportation.

Orlando police said Friday afternoon that anyone who has a family member or employee that works at Reynolds, Smith & Hills should go to College Park Baptist Church at 1914 Edgewater Drive.

“At 11 o’clock, we received a call about shots fired at the 1000 block of Legions Place,” Sgt. Barb Jones said early Friday afternoon. “We deployed our active shooter teams.”

The shooting happened at 1000 Legion Place at the Gateway Center.

“We’re still in the area. Our SWAT team is on scene. And we’re still trying to secure various structures in the area,” Sgt. Jones said. “I would consider [the suspect] armed and dangerous.”

Due to the incident, I-4 is closed from John Young Parkway to the 417 and tolls have been suspended on the 408 and 417 to help deal with traffic. All public school lockdowns were lifted shortly after 2:00pm, but Bishop Moore remained locked down.

Eyewitness News arrived on the scene and spoke to one man who said he saw someone screaming at him to get out of the building immediately. Other people were led out of the building, distraught and crying.

“We got back in our office and everybody kinda huddled in our office waiting for police,” eyewitness Gerry Kilga told Eyewitness News.

“All I know is that he was shot in the back, that’s all we know. He is breathing and everything, we still need more answers,” a shooting victim’s niece told Eyewitness News outside Orlando Regional Medical Center.

There were approximately 50 paramedics who responded to the incident.
