At 12:41pm EST today, Fox News’ Matt Finn tweeted out “BLM backs down in Bundy Ranch per Clark County Sheriff.”

Does this mean Bundy and his family won?  Not necessarily.  According to Bureau of Land Management director Neil Kornze’s statement this morning:

“As we have said from the beginning of the gather to remove illegal cattle from federal land consistent with court orders, a safe and peaceful operation is our number one priority. After one week, we have made progress in enforcing two recent court orders to remove the trespass cattle from public lands that belong to all Americans.

“Based on information about conditions on the ground, and in consultation with law enforcement, we have made a decision to conclude the cattle gather because of our serious concern about the safety of employees and members of the public.

“We ask that all parties in the area remain peaceful and law-abiding as the Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service work to end the operation in an orderly manner.
Ranching has always been an important part of our nation’s heritage and continues throughout the West on public lands that belong to all Americans. This is a matter of fairness and equity, and we remain disappointed that Cliven Bundy continues to not comply with the same laws that 16,000 public lands ranchers do every year. After 20 years and multiple court orders to remove the trespass cattle, Mr. Bundy owes the American taxpayers in excess of $1 million. The BLM will continue to work to resolve the matter administratively and judicially.”

There is no question that the arrival of hundreds, if not thousands, of American citizens has brought tremendous pressure.  However, notice the BLM is claiming no wrong doing.  They are claiming a safety issue for BLM employees and members of the public.  What was the safety issue?  The only people I saw in danger were the public by members of the BLM.   Perhaps it was the arrival of various militia groups and the exposing of what the BLM was actually engaging in that brought this change of heart.

The BLM will not be backing off of the Bundy’s though.  As per their statement, they will continue to work “administratively and judicially” to do what they are engaged in.

While many have chided Bundy regarding grazing fees, the reality is something much different.  The BLM was expected to perform certain tasks with those fees.  Instead, they were not providing the services they were expected to.

In a statement by Cliven Bundy’s daughter Shiree Bundy Cox, she presents the history of what has taken place.

This is the explanation of what is and has occurred!  Hi, I have had people ask me to explain my dad’s stance on this BLM fight. Here it is in as simple of terms as I can explain it. There is so much to it, but here it’s in a nut shell.

My great grandpa bought the rights to the Bunkerville allotment back in 1887 around there. Then he sold them to my grandpa who then turned them over to my dad in 1972. These men bought and paid for their rights to the range and also built waters, fences and roads to assure the servival of their cattle, all with their own money, not with tax dollars.

These rights to the land use is called preemptive rights. Somewhere down the line, to keep the cows from over grazing, came the bureau of land management. They were supposed to assist the ranchers in the management of their ranges while the ranchers paid a yearly allotment which was to be used to pay the BLM wages and to help with repairs and improvements of the ranches.
My dad did pay his grazing fees for years to the BLM until they were no longer using his fees to help him and to improve. Instead they began using these money’s against the ranchers. They bought all the rest of the ranchers in the area out with their own grazing fees. When they offered to buy my dad out for a penance he said no thanks and then fired them because they weren’t doing their job. He quit paying the BLM but, tried giving his grazing fees to the county, which they turned down.

So my dad just went on running his ranch and making his own improvements with his own equipment and his own money, not taxes. In essence the BLM was managing my dad out of business. Well when buying him out didn’t work, they used the endangered species card. You’ve already heard about the desert tortoise.

Well that didn’t work either, so then began the threats and the court orders, which my dad has proven to be unlawful for all these years. Now they’re desperate. It’s come down to buying the brand inspector off and threatening the County Sheriff. Everything their doing at this point is illegal and totally against the constitution of the United States of America.

Now you may be saying,” how sad, but what does this have to do with me?” Well, I’ll tell you. They will get rid of Cliven Bundy, the last man standing on the Bunkerville allotment and then they will close all the roads so no one can ever go on it again. Next, it’s Utah’s turn. Mark my words, Utah is next. Then there’s the issue of the cattle that are at this moment being stolen. See even if dad hasn’t paid them, those cattle do belong to him.

Regardless where they are they are my father’s property. His herd has been part of that range for over a hundred years, long before the BLM even existed. Now the Feds think they can just come in and remove them and sell them without a legal brand inspection or without my dad’s signature on it. They think they can take them over two boarders, which is illegal, ask any trucker. Then they plan to take them to the Richfield Auction and sell them. All with our tax money. They have paid off the contract cowboys and the auction owner as well as the Nevada brand inspector with our tax dollars. See how slick they are? Well, this is it in a nut shell. Thanks”
Shiree Bundy Cox

This statement doesn’t appear like the BLM’s claim of “fairness and equity.”

The news from Finn, has been confirmed in other reports, which announced:

The Sheriff of Clark County, Nevada, Douglas Gillespie, announced to tremendous applause Saturday that the Bureau of Land Management would cease their efforts targeting cattle rancher Cliven Bundy.

In an emotional response, Bundy told the Sheriff he had one hour to disarm the federal agency, and to bring the arms to the platform where speeches were made this morning.

The sheriff’s announcement coincided with a press release put out by the BLM today stating that they would back off due to safety issues.

It would not surprise me in the least to discover that the BLM is not only going to pursue judicial and administrative tactics, but just may have a plan in mind to be able to come back even harder against the Bundy’s.  After all, the No Fly Zone has been instituted for an entire month.

UPDATE:  Kim Paxton has more on what’s taking place:

A tweet from Anonymous 0407 indicates that this is NOT over and that the SWAT team is suiting up.

Update 11:58, April 12

Bundy has asked the local Sheriff, Douglas GIllespie, to disarm the BLM officials.  Cowboys on horseback are preparing to take back the cattle that have been stolen.

Original story….

In response to fierce public support of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, the Bureau of Land Management has announced that they are withdrawing from the dispute.

The Bureau of Land Management has announced it will stop the roundup of cattle owned by rancher Cliven Bundy. The BLM says the animals have been illegally grazing on public lands for 20 years.

The BLM made the announcement Saturday morning, a week after rangers started gathering the animals from land near Gold Butte.

The agency says it is concerned about the safety of its employees and the public. Earlier this week, BLM officers and supporters of the Bundy family were involved in a scuffle. Cliven Bundy’s son, Ammon Bundy, was tased twice by federal agents. Another woman said she was thrown to the ground by an officer.

With more Bundy supporters pouring in from around the country, safety concerns began to grow.  (source)

One rather ridiculous twist to this story is that the BLM wishes to sell the cattle of Bundy’s that they had already stolen rounded up and “split” the proceeds with the rancher.

On the Bundy Ranch Facebook page, the family updated with the following:

Sheriff has stated that the BLM has and said they will Stand down earlier today as you know! This is true!

Cliven has demanded that the BLM comes and puts down their guns and shows that they are really going to leave this area alone.

Let the world know! Cliven Bundy wants them to open up this area pull down the signs saying we may not cross onto those roads! As well as take down these checkpoints like the one where a man was murdered!

The BLM has not adhered to the deadline as of this posting.  Cowboys have gone to round up the cattle and return them to their rightful owners.

Activism really does work. This incident has proven that the Patriots and the militias are worthy adversaries.  We have proven the power of social media and alternative news in the fight against tyranny.

UPDATE: Jim White’s NorthWest Liberty News reporter John O’Neil reported this afternoon that the cattle were in the process of being returned.  Here’s the report:
