How will the new restrictions be enforced — if at all?

According to the executive order, anyone who willfully violates the restrictions could be punished with a fine up to $1,000 or 90 days in jail.

Gov. Walz is urging Minnesotans to voluntarily comply with the executive order. If someone does violate it, he said, “we don’t want them to be arrested. We want to educate people. This requires voluntary social compliance.”

While you can technically be in trouble for violating it, if you are listed as exempt or essential, you will not get in trouble if you are going about your daily commute to work or to get gas or groceries. The order simply gives authorities the ability to enforce it should it become a problem.

There have been talks of people being nervous that they will get arrested for violating the order. As long as you meet the exempt status, you are OK and you can leave the house for the specified reasons such as going to work, getting groceries or gas.
