French President Emmanuel Macron threatened to launch new strikes against Syria if the regime uses chemical weapons again.

Speaking to French ambassadors yesterday, Macron said that Paris, the US and the UK attacked Syrian government positions in April, in response to the regime’s alleged chemical weapons’ attack on the town of Douma adding: “We will continue acting this way if we see new confirmed cases of the chemical weapons use.”

Macron also expressed fear that a humanitarian crisis could erupt in the province of Idlib if the Syrian army launches a military campaign against opposition groups who control most of the territory.

The French president said he expected Russia and Turkey to intensify pressure on the Syrian regime to avoid this.
