Because of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, Americans have not been allowed to oppose the installation of cell towers and other wireless infrastructure based on health and environmental concerns near schools, medical facilities, residential areas, or anywhere else. The first lawsuit contesting the constitutionality of this 20+ year old legislation was filed on December 21, 2018 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is supposed to protect the public by regulating the Telecommunications Industry. They have been failing miserably at this for many years now. Because of this they have been accurately identified as a “captured agency.” Many of our elected officials and other government employees seem to have been “captured” by the Telecom Industry as well. This has become more obvious due to the passing of new legislation – despite widespread protest – that allows for the forced installation of harmful infrastructure and devices for campaigns like the “Race for 5G” “Smart Cities,” and “Internet of Things” (IoT), utility “Smart” Meters, and more.

Decades of research has proven that exposure to cell towers and other sources of wireless WiFi radiation is harmful to humans, animals, and nature. It’s not just about cancer risk. Since 2004, the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) has opposed to use of their stations for cell towers and antennas due to health risks. Insurance companiesaren’t even covering wireless radiation exposure anymore because it’s too risky.

There is also no scientifically proven “safe” level of exposure to cell phone and wireless WiFi radiation that has been determined for children and pregnant women. Research has also proven that children and young people are more affected by exposure than adults.

The Telecommunications Act of 1996 totally and unequivocally sucks for the American people and the environment. Thanks to New Mexico residents for filing this lawsuit. For more information about it, contact the Cell Phone Task Force at [email protected]
