The U.S. gave full approval to Pfizer;s COVID-19 vaccine Monday, a milestone that could lift public confidence in the shots and spur vaccine mandates. (Aug. 23) AP

The Michigan health department reported 4,494 new COVID-19 cases and 90 deaths over the last two days, averaging 2,247 cases a day.

Of the 90 deaths, 36 were identified during a vital records review, which the department conducts three times a week.

Michigan now has a total of 951,192 confirmed cases and 20,347 deaths.

The state had a positivity rate of 10.45% Tuesday, reporting that 3,225 of 30,779 diagnostic test results were positive.

The state health department reported a a fatality rate of 2.1% among known cases.

Michigan also has reported 114,479 probable COVID-19 cases and 1,300 probable deaths. The probable cases combined with confirmed cases make up a total of 1,065,671 cases and 21,616 deaths.
