Donald Trump, along with several other possible 2024 presidential candidates, spoke at a Republican National Committee (RNC) donor retreat over the weekend.

The Retreat

According to Fox News, “The GOP’s wealthiest contributors and biggest fundraisers” attended the Republican National Committee (RNC) donor retreat, which attracted “more than half a dozen potential 2024 presidential contenders.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, Florida Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo were among the attendees. Each of these politicians is considered a possible candidate for the 2024 presidential race.

The conference, which took place over two days, was held at the Palm Beach Four Seasons. For a bonus, after the initial events, the retreat moved 4 miles north to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort for Donald Trump to close the weekend out with his speech.

Though the start of the next presidential race is over a year and a half away – after the 2022 midterms, candidates for the 2024 presidential race will likely begin publicly announcing the formation of exploratory committees and announcing their formal candidacies – the donor retreat was still very important.

“That’s campaign 101,” Henry Barbour, a longtime RNC committee member from Mississippi, said in an interview with Fox News. “If you’re thinking about running in ’24, you want to meet with not only the most important donors, but the most important fundraisers, because so many of these donors are able to go out and raise money well beyond what they can personally give.”

Barbour noted that “the same is true for the RNC committee members meeting in a couple of weeks in Dallas. These are the activists and grassroots leaders of the party in their states. So these are important people to meet if you’re thinking about ’24.”

“The party is bigger than any one candidate. Clearly, Donald Trump is a big force in the Republican Party but I think the key for us moving forward and winning elections, particularly national elections, is to focus on our conservative principles and ideas and being a party that practices the politics of addition rather than division,” he continued.

Trump’s Mysterious Speech

After extensive searching, it seems that there is no video or audio of the speech available. As the event was a private, closed-door retreat, that isn’t a big surprise. The most that can be found are short out-of-context quotes from Donald Trump.

Discussing the fraud and irregularities in the 2020 election and the lack of a fight from Republicans, Trump reportedly said: “If that were Schumer instead of this dumb son of a b—- Mitch McConnell, they would never allow it to happen. They would have fought it.”

Speaking about former Vice President Mike Pence, Trump said “I like him so much,” but noted that he was “disappointed” in him. Trump also reportedly referred to Dr. Anthony Fauci as “so full of crap.”

Of course, these are the comments that the mainstream media is focusing on. The media is always more likely to focus on Trump’s negative or brash statements, rather than his positive ones.

According to reports, a good portion of Trump’s speech discussed the future of the Republican Party. At least one positive comment slipped through the mainstream media filter. “The key to this triumphant future will be to build on the gains our amazing movement has made over the past four years,” Trump reportedly said.
