U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, (D.-Tx.), who is known for telling her staff, “I’m a queen and I deserve to be treated like one,” has launched a new career as an historian of American history. Nevertheless, her scholastic credential have been called into question, when she claimed the US Constitution was written 400 years ago while speaking at the Congressional House Floor.

The Houston Chronicle reports that, “Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, had an “oops” moment on the House floor. The Houston representative declared the U.S. Constitution was some 400 years old.”

Congresswoman Lee is quoted as saying that, “Maybe I should offer a good thanks to the distinguished members of the majority, the Republicans, my chairman and others, for giving us an opportunity to have a deliberative constitutional discussion that reinforces the sanctity of this nation and how well it is that we have lasted some 400 years, operating under a Constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not.”

According to the Houston Chronicle, “The Constitution was created in 1787 and ratified nearly a year later. Four hundred years ago, Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America, was founded.”

US Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee has earned notoriety for speaking gaffes. She once insisted that NASA astronauts had already landed on Mars.
