Ted Cruz Explains EXACTLY What’s Wrong with DC Statehood

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) held a press conference this week to reveal the Democrat push for Washington, D.C., statehood and to pack the Supreme Court are efforts to change the rules and stay in power.

His statement came as the House passed legislation to make the District of Columbia the nation’s 51st state. The vote along party lines advances the bill to the Senate.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) celebrated the bill’s passage. Why? She claimed it was due to civil rights. Washington, D.C., residents pay taxes yet lack representation in Congress.

But Cruz had another take. Calling the Democrat move an attempt to change the rules to stay in power, he argued the left doesn’t care about democracy.

The District of Columbia traditionally votes strongly Democrat. The statehood plan would essentially give Democrats two additional senators and at least two house members.

A similar plan remains in the works for the statehood of Puerto Rico. The current American territory also leans strongly Democrat. Adding the island as a 52nd state would give the left even more power in the legislative branch—and more votes for future presidential elections.

Cruz also noted the left’s recent moves to pack the Supreme Court. Conservatives currently enjoy a six to three advantage after three justices were replaced during former President Donald Trump’s four years in office.

President Joe Biden has already created a team to “explore” the number of justices and potential term limits. The left interestingly wants to add “only four more” justices, just enough to create a seven to six advantage in the nation’s highest court.

Cruz called the effort an “assault” on the independence of the judiciary.

When Republicans held power in the White House and Congress, the nation was not pressed to accept new states or more justices. The right sought to play within the rules to improve the country.

Democrats clearly have no problem bending and changing the rules if it helps them remain in power—or increase it. Whether adding new states to gain an advantage or twisting the Second Amendment to increase gun controls, the left sees the Constitution and current laws as something to adjust as needed to forward their agenda.

One reason for the shady moves of the left is the reality that their time in power is short. Unless something really unusual happens, Republicans are on track to take back the House in 2022. The change will basically create political gridlock until the next presidential election.

With Biden’s age and increased gaffes in office, many question whether he will run for reelection, or could win even if he did. Harris could take the challenge, but may face a difficult battle based on her current leadership as vice president.

She would run as the first woman of color as a president, a narrative that would strongly resonate with many voters. Her success may largely depend on who she faces, whether a Trump comeback attempt or another conservative to push back on the radical Biden agenda.

However it shapes up, don’t expect Democrats to play by the rules. If they can, they’ll change them. If not, they might even be tempted to break them.
