Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said on Friday that he does not plan to be reimbursed for the millions of dollars in loans he has made to his campaign.

“I have absolutely no intention of paying myself back for the nearly $50 million I have loaned to the campaign,” the real estate mogul told MSNBC in a statement. “This money is a contribution made in order to ‘Make America Great Again.’”

Many have been skeptical of Trump’s claim that his candidacy has been self-funded because the $35.9 million that he has funneled into the campaign have been loans that he could be reimbursed for using contributions from supporters. A story on nbcnews.com said he legally could use funds raised by the campaign to repay himself.

His statement on Friday, if true, will validate his claims of self-funding.
