Well, there it is.  The “wise” of this worldly system of media empires are a bit perplexed.  One year ago maybe every talking-head-pundit who made a prediction predicted that the Republican primary in New Hampshire would be won by somebody who was holding elective office or who had held elective office.  Trump’s Iowa finish, a close second, was no less perplexing to those same talking heads.  Think about how Trump might have fared in Iowa had chosen to attend the only debate held in Iowa or had he spent more time there before the caucus; he’s been favoring New Hampshire, willing to cede Iowa.  So the talking-head-pundits who thought they’d see a member of the political class win New Hampshire?

How wrong they were!

So what does this tell us, this departure from what “everybody knows” will happen?  It tells us that some things are unpredictable.  Nobody saw Clinton coming in 1992.  Even he said, after his election, that he had gotten into the Democrat primary in 1992 just to learn about how it works so that after “the inevitable” Bush victory, which kept Democrat heavyweights on the sideline, he’d be better prepared for a run in 1996 or later.  But Bush lost because, well, he’s Bush, and that was “explainable.”

Politics in America now; a Trump victory that was not on the radar screen a year ago is not, to the pundits, explainable:  The all but impossible; the very improbable; the “never-saw-that-coming,” just became not only a real possibility, but, as blinders are removed, became a “why-did-we-think-that-way?”

Why did we think that way?

I’ll tell you why we thought that way.  It’s the nature of an unregenerate heart led by worldly media.  Christians who read their bibles know of improbabilities, even impossibilities (miracles) coming to fruition.  The Creator- your creator- loves to use people who “probably” would never do anything notable, certainly not anything spectacular, to do just that- notable and even spectacular things.   But you might not notice it if you’re convinced that, “my husband/wife couldn’t possibly do anything notable, he’s no Abraham, she’s no Esther,” or “my mom and dad are just mom and dad, they can’t do anything notable.”  Quit thinking like that, God doesn’t think like that and neither should you.

Look what He did:  (KJV) I Corinthians 1:25-29  Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

Let’s see that in “less perfect” but contemporary English:  (NIV)  I Corinthians 1:25-29  Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For you see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, has God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nothing things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

Okay, I’m not a particularly wise man after the flesh, not mighty, not noble, (and I don’t believe I’ve been called), but Donald Trump might be thought wise after the flesh, might be called mighty or noble.  AND he might be called.  Is he called?  Is he, as some of my Christian friends have claimed, a “trump of God?”  I guess we’ll have to wait and see if he’s an instrument of God, but he surely has demonstrated for us that throwing aside political correctness and practicing plain old speaking the unguarded truth has a way of making the powerful in the press and politics scratch their heads, seeming almost sad, when asking about those who are neglecting their favored and chosen heroes,

“Why do they think that way?”
