A former U.S. Attorney blew the whistle on a purported directive he received from then Attorney General William Barr not to pursue or raise public awareness about election fraud cases. McSwain sent the letter to Donald Trump, who released it. Barr has now run to the Washington Post to “rebuke” the claim.

“Any suggestion that McSwain was told to stand down from investigating allegations of election fraud is false. It’s just false,” Barr said. He added that the allegations in the letter “appeared to have been made to mollify President Trump to gain his support for McSwain’s planned run for governor.”

The Washington Post’s report attempted to give context over the error-filled Pennsylvania election.

“Barr said McSwain told him in their phone call that his reference to a ‘directive’ involved a single matter having to do with ‘allegations of irregularities’ in Delaware County, Pa., and that the directive came in a conversation with Richard Donoghue, a senior Justice Department official,” the WaPo report said.

“Donoghue never suggested to McSwain he stand down from any investigation into fraud,” Barr said.

“While I was made aware of allegations relating to conduct in Delaware County, I did not preclude DOJ personnel in Pennsylvania from investigating allegations of criminal misconduct relating to the 2020 elections or direct that any such allegations be handled exclusively by state authorities,” Donoghue wrote in a text message to the Post.

“Allegations of election fraud were handled by both federal and state authorities throughout the 2020 election cycle,” Donoghue said. “Which authority or authorities reviewed a particular allegation turned largely on the nature of the allegation itself.”

This counter-argument, however, was addressed specifically in McSwain’s letter. It involved turning over election fraud evidence to a Democratic state attorney general who had already said definitively that Trump had lost.

“While Larry Krasner, the radical leftist Philadelphia District Attorney, was letting violent criminals go and refusing to prosecute rioters, looters, and arsonists, our Office was putting them in jail and standing up for law-abiding citizens. In the spring of 2020, I prosecuted and won an election fraud case against a Judge of Elections in South Philadelphia who was stuffing the ballot box. I also charged the political consultant (a former Democratic Congressman) who was paying bribes to the Judge to stuff the ballot box.”

“President Trump, you were right to be upset about the way the Democrats ran the 2020 election in Pennsylvania – it was a partisan disgrace,” he added. “The Governor, the Secretary of theCommonwealth, and the partisan State Supreme Court made up their own rules and did not follow the law.”

“Even worse, the State Attorney General, Josh Shapiro – the very person responsible for the enforcement of state election law – declared days before Election Day that you could not win the election,” he continued. “It would be hard to imagine a more irresponsible statement by a law enforcement officer, especially during a hotly contested election.”

“In light of such statements, it is hardly surprising that many Pennsylvanians lack faith in our state’s election results,” he added.

“On Election Day and afterwards, our Office received various allegations of voter fraud and election irregularities,” he continued. “As part of my responsibilities as U.S. Attorney, I wanted to be transparent with the public and, of course, investigate fully any allegations.”

“Attorney General Barr, however, instructed me not to make any public statements or put out any press releases regarding possible election irregularities,” he continued. “I was also given a directive to pass along serious allegations to the State Attorney General for investigation – the same State Attorney General who had already declared that you could not win.”

“I disagreed with that decision, but those were my orders,” he said. “As a Marine infantry officer, I was trained to follow the chain of command and to respect the orders of my superiors, even when I disagree with them. Mr. President, public service is in my blood, and I would like to serve the people of Pennsylvania and restore conservative leadership to our state.”

On Wednesday, McSwain added to his remarks by addressing William Barr’s comments to the Washington Post.

“Everything in my 6/9/21 letter to President Trump is 100% true,” McSwain said on Twitter. “I have a lifetime reputation for honesty that is beyond reproach. If Bill Barr wants to run to WaPo to complain about me telling the truth, that’s OK – it doesn’t bother me.”

“I have more important things to be concerned about than Bill Barr’s feelings,” he added. “I’m concerned about the future of PA and of our country. We need change in our politics – badly. And it will come in 2022.”

Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano recently announced a “forensic investigation of the 2020 General Election and 2021 Primary.” The Keystone State’s move was met with denunciation by President Biden, who flew to Philadelphia to give a speech railing against such audits; meanwhile, former president Donald Trump argued that Biden should, “let the forensic audit go.”
