In mid-June, in Pella, Iowa, the home of a charming Dutch, Christian Reformed community, a middle-aged woman who claims she is a male was permitted to saunter around the Pella Aquatic Center topless and use the men’s locker room, and the Aquatic Center reportedly did nothing to prevent it.

The Iowa Standard reported that the assistant manager stated anyone can wear clothing they associated with their gender identity rather than biological sex. “The policy is set by the city council, according to the aquatic center’s assistant manager,” The Iowa Standard asserted.

One resident told the Iowa Standard:

When brought to the facility’s attention, they explained there was nothing they could do. That state law protects this biological female, allowing her to walk around indecently exposing herself to all the families enjoying the facility. The facility is afraid if they act and require her to cover herself, they will face legal backlash. I find it appalling that this would actually be state law.

If someone were to take a picture, it wouldn’t be viewed as some boy at the pool in his swim shorts. It would be a topless photo of a biological female and it would be child pornography.

The Pella Aquatic Center General Rules state:

The Pella Aquatic Center is a family-friendly facility. Inappropriate behavior, language, or attire are not permitted and will be grounds for refusing admission or removal from the facility without a refund. … Proper swim attire must be worn. It must be designed for swimming and made of non-absorbent material such as Lycra, spandex, nylon or neoprene. No cotton. No cut-offs. No metal grommets. Failure to abide by these rules may result in injury to yourself and others and could result in removal from the facility.

The City of Pella states on its website:

At the end of April, Iowa GOP Gov. Kim Reynolds signaled her support for legislation that would bar biological males from competing in athletics with biological females. Speaking at a Fox News town hall, she said “we’re working on legislation” about the issue. “I’m going to do what’s right for girls. I’m a mom of three daughters and a grandmother of three granddaughters who compete. And it’s the right (thing) to do. They should have the same opportunities,” she stated, according to the Des Moines Register.
