Adele was criticized for saying that she “loves being female” and accepting the first gender-neutral artist award at Tuesday’s 2022 Brits Awards.

The new category replaces the separate categories for best female and best man artist from previous Brits’ ward shows. Fox News Digital reached out to the Brits for clarification, but they did not respond.

Adele won the best album, song, and artist of the year awards.

“I can understand why the award’s name has been changed, but I love being a woman artist. Yes, I do! Adele said this while accepting the award. She added, “I’m really proud about us, I really, truly am.”

Adele’s speech was criticized by social media users for being anti-trans, with others coming to her defense.

According to Page Six, one user on social media wrote: “Please, please, ADELE cannot be a TERF.”

“So…Adele’s kind of terfy, then?” Another user wrote: “Good, good.”

“Trans-exclusionary radical feminist” is the acronym for “TERF”.

Adele was also defended by another social media user who claimed that the singer supports trans rights.

“Using this to be transphobic, and saying s-t like ‘i Stand with Adele’ when adele would hate that you are transphobic?” She supports trans rights, and if you don’t, then you don’t really stand for adele. “Gtfo,” wrote the user.

Another expressed dismay at Adele’s speech.

The user wrote, “It doesn’t really matter if Adele resigns or not.” The world has witnessed the reactions to her words. They are mostly saying ….what is the real f–k?

Adele has not commented publicly on the debate that she started. Instead, Adele shared a brief thank-you note via Twitter after the awards show.

“What a wonderful night! She wrote, “Thank you @BRITs. Thank you Sally and Tom.” “Thank you to everyone in the crowd, you were so loving and loud! Congratulations to all nominees and winners, keep it up!

After she delayed her Las Vegas Residency, Adele’s speech put the “Rolling in the Deep” singer back in the news.
