A group of anti-lockdown protesters have clashed with police in Melbourne’s north as almost 200 more Victorians were fined for breaching restrictions.Dozens of demonstrators spent the afternoon throwing flares and rocks at officers along Pascoe Vale Road, some of the alleged offenders underaged.”Victoria Police are doing a great job, they’re out there protecting people, fining, imposing sanctions, doing the work they’re doing, is about protecting people,” Premier Daniel Andrews said today.LIVE UPDATES: ‘No day at the beach is worth that’: Daniel Andrew’s stern warning for beach-goersA total of 192 people were fined over the past 24 hours for breaching coronavirus regulations.One of those fines was issued to a Melbourne woman who “got lost” buying toilet paper yesterday.Of those fines, 20 were given to people who refused to wear a face covering such as a mask while out in public.
She told police she was looking for a supermarket to buy toilet paper but got lost.
Outside of Melbourne, group of seven young people, who all lived at different addresses, were found at a house party yesterday in Warrnambool on Victoria’s south-west coast, where Stage Three restrictions are in place.
Police issued the teens with a warning, but an hour later police were called back to the home and found them all still there.
All seven were issued with fines for breaching COVID-19 restrictions.
In another instance, a woman was fined after holding a birthday party for a five-year-old at her house in Latrobe, in the state’s Gippsland region.
Twelve adults and eight children attended the gathering.
A San Remo family were also fined after a carload of two adults and three children were stopped at a vehicle checkpoint.
The male driver of the car told police he was picking up medication from his work and they had decided to get pizza in Pakenham before heading home.
Asked why his partner and three children needed to also attend, he said the family had to do everything together.
Victoria recorded a further 114 COVID-19 cases today, an increase on yesterday’s two-month low of 94 cases.
