An armed Miami man shot and killed an AK-47 wielding bandit in an incident that Miami police are calling self defense.

60-year old Donovan Stewart was surprised to be awakened by a sharp knock on the door of the van of which he was living at 3 AM Monday morning. His girlfriend and He opened the door to find a AK-rifle wielding stranger who was threatening to rob him.

Stewart explained his quick reaction in a video interview with CBS 4 News. Stewart forced the thug’s rifle to the side, drawing his Glock semi-automatic pistol and firing into the armed thug’s chest.

I am from Kingstontown in Jamaica, and I am not going to go out like a punk. So I emptied my Glock in his chest. This man tried to get in my van while I was sleeping and he was surprised to see what I did.

Stewart’s quick action proved decisive in neutralizing the threat.

It was so close… I got the nozzle away from my face… And I emptied my Glock in his chest.

Police investigating the incident say so far that the situation appears to be a case of self defense. The unnamed bandit killed in the incident is being investigated for possible involvement in other robberies in the Miami area, including one in which a young woman claims he entered her home at gunpoint and stole $600 in cash.
