CNN Considered a Boat Anchor by Parent Company

Talk about a fall from grace by CNN. At one point, the network Ted Turner built revolutionized cable news.

Remember watching footage of the war with Iraq? I was glued to the TV screen watching all that AAA lighting up the night sky as our military bombed Saddam Hussein into oblivion. I couldn’t turn away. CNN actually seemed to report news back then, and not fabricate it. But things changed. Dramatically.

No sense trying to figure out when; it doesn’t matter. What does matter is CNN and their cohorts undoubtedly became “fake news”. Donald Trump called them out for what they were and still are.

At the time I bet none of them thought the moniker would stick. Yet, years later we’re still referring to them as fake news. Moreover, we really believe it.

While WaPo is carried by the richest man in the world–a man who hates the president–the fact is WaPo can’t stand on its own. Without Bezos’ backing, WaPo would be bankrupt. Most of the leading news outlets would fail were it not for support from outside sources. Which is why CNN’s parent company appears to be prepping a fire sale.

“CNN does not have Donald Trump to kick around anymore, and their ratings will take a hit,” Fox Business correspondent Charlie Gasparino said during a Tucker Carlson Tonight appearance, adding that CNN’s parent company, AT&T, is “financially unstable” with $150 billion in debt.

“They need to cut costs. There’s an active investor out there,” Gasparino said.

Rumors have swirled that billionaire Jeff Bezos could be interested in buying the company, a deal that Fox Business sources said would make sense for both sides.

Keep in mind that Fox News’ Gasparino is an anti-Trumper who believes this sale is due to CNN not having Trump to kick around anymore. Reason: Trump will win his second term.

Gasparino is an idiot, as there are plenty of other reasons for this sale to happen.

Undoubtedly, things won’t get any better for CNN. I wrote of the carnage happening at CNN in 2019:

How did Trump figure this out and we didn’t? He put himself downrange in the target zone, when he dared to run for president. As a Republican.

Let’s be clear, the media would have devastated him even if he were a Democrat. But that’s only because nobody was to challenge Hillary Clinton. Put that aside, and Trump never utters fake news.

But he did, and the results have been devastating to the media. As The Spectator reported,

There has been much wailing and rending of garments over the weekend about the layoffs of some writers, editors, and other staff at BuzzFeed, HuffPost, Yahoo, AOL, and Gannett. Naturally, the affected employees are upset and inclined to blame malign forces beyond their control. Predictably, the primary villain to emerge is President Trump, who had the temerity to tweet that the real problem is the market: “Fake News and bad journalism have caused a big downturn. Sadly, many others will follow. The people want the Truth!” This is not what these unhappy folks want to hear, but Trump is right.

Trump understands what many journalists refuse to acknowledge — the news business is a business — and the customers are dissatisfied. According to Gallup, the public now has less confidence in the news media than in banks, big business, organized religion, the medical system, the military, public schools, the presidency, the police, etc. This is true for all news sources, including television, newspapers, and the internet. Moreover, because the erosion of public confidence in the media has been a consistent, decades-long process, it cannot credibly be blamed on “attacks” by President Trump.

The anti-Trump media has taken a serious hit.

ESPN laid off people after they sided with Team Kaepernick and the social justice warriors in the NFL and other sports. And almost all the media outlets have taken hit, including the formerly venerable Fox News.

So the time to jettison CNN is now. And if Bezos wants another boat anchor like WaPo, CNN is a perfect fit. However, given the Executive Order issued by President Trump on foreign interference in elections, I suggest Bezos wait this one out. Because the U.S. government could be the owner of CNN soon.
