Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was drunk and slurring during her appearance at a tribute honoring Grateful Dead’s late Bob Weir in San Francisco last weekend, critics on social media have claimed.

Pelosi, 85, delivered a speech at San Francisco’s Civic Center where she appeared to stumble over her words multiple times while talking about Weir’s legacy.

The self-proclaimed “Deadhead” also tried to sing while swaying on stage as musician John Mayer performed the Grateful Dead classic “Ripple.”

Footage went viral on social media, where users claimed Pelosi had been drinking.

“Is Nancy Pelosi drunk at the Bob Weir Homecoming?” one user asked on X.

“Poor old drunk Nancy. She doesn’t know when to stay home or refrain from the happy juice before going to a tribute for someone who died. Sheesh. What a mess,” another commented.

“When public figures turn solemn moments into awkward spectacles, the internet is going to notice. A memorial should honor the person being remembered, not spark a whole new round of secondhand embarrassment,” wrote a third.

Thousands gathered Saturday to celebrate the life of Weir, who died January 10 at age 78 after battling cancer for years.

During her remarks, Pelosi struggled and slurred her words at several points.

“Bobby Weir was not just a magician, musician – a magician too – he was a force of nature,” Pelosi said at one point.

Critics also slammed Pelosi’s wardrobe choice, noting that she wore a bright magenta suit while nearly everyone else on stage appeared to be dressed in all black for the somber occasion.

“Nancy Pelosi wearing a very somber magenta on stage at Bob Weir’s funeral,” one user sarcastically joked.

Some social media users asked why Pelosi, who announced in November that she will retire from Congress when her current term ends in 2027, was invited to the event in the first place.

“Why is [Nancy] Pelosi speaking at this Bob Weir memorial?”

“Hearing from Nancy Pelosi on Bob Weir’s passing is like Hearing from Hannible Lecter about Mother Teresa’s life,” another user posted.

Weir died on January 10; his family said he “transitioned peacefully, surrounded by loved ones” but “unfortunately, he succumbed to underlying lung issues” after battling cancer for years.

Weir founded the Grateful Dead in 1965 in San Francisco alongside Jerry Garcia. The band became one of the most influential rock groups in American history, inspiring a devoted following of fans known as “Deadheads” who traveled across the country to attend their concerts.

After Garcia’s death in 1995, Weir continued performing with various iterations of the Grateful Dead, most recently with Dead & Company, which he formed in 2015 with John Mayer as lead guitarist.
