Gordon Brown has sent a fresh dossier of evidence to police investigating Jeffrey Epstein’s flights in and out of Britain at the time the late paedophile was accused of trafficking women.
The former prime minister contacted six police forces that cover airports used by Epstein, whose private jet was nicknamed the Lolita Express because it was used to transport young women around the world.
Mr Brown sent a five-page memo to the police a week after sending other evidence relating to Epstein’s movements.
It was sent to the Metropolitan Police, Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley, Norfolk and Bedfordshire constabularies, which cover Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, RAF Marham and RAF Horsham among other airports and air bases.
In a statement, Mr Brown, who was chancellor from 1997 to 2007 and prime minister from 2007 to 2010, said: “I have submitted a five-page memorandum to the Metropolitan, Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley and other relevant UK police constabularies.
“This memorandum provides new and additional information to that which I submitted last week to the Met, Essex and Thames Valley police forces where I expressed my concern that we secure justice for trafficked girls and women.”
Earlier this month, Mr Brown said in an article for the New Statesman magazine that he had been “shocked to the core” by the evidence of abuse contained in the Epstein files and had “delved deep” into them to discover the extent of the “betrayal” of Britain committed by Epstein and Lord Mandelson, the former trade secretary.
It is understood that the evidence the former prime minister sent to police consists of information from the Epstein files, rather than documents from his time in government.
Mr Brown said in the New Statesman: “The Epstein emails, which record the visas issued, payments made and transport organised for girls and women trafficked across the world, suggest a number of British girls were on 90 Epstein flights organised from UK airports on what was called his ‘Lolita Express’.
“Among the many aspects that should sicken anyone looking at the emails is that 15 of these flights were given the go-ahead after his 2008 conviction for soliciting sex from a minor. How the flights were allowed to continue should have been fully investigated.”
Mr Brown said police “urgently” needed to re-examine whether Epstein’s victims were trafficked within and outside the UK.
Evidence contained in the Epstein files shows incomplete flight logs, with unnamed passengers simply labelled as “female”.
Mr Brown added that Stansted Airport in Essex was one of the airports “where women were transferred from one Epstein plane to another”, adding that “women arriving on private planes into Britain would not need British visas”.
The three million pages of documents released by the US department of justice included photographs of dozens of passports belonging to women, Epstein turning down girls for being “too old” and not sufficiently good-looking, and the details of a “very cute” 18-year-old girl.
