FBI: Fists and Feet Killed More People than Rifles in 2020

By: José Niño

While the corporate press fearmongers about an epidemic of “gun violence”, the cold, hard facts tell us a different story.

The FBI just released its Uniform Crime Report (UCR), showing that fists and feet killed more people in 2020 than any kind of rifle.

According to the UCR, 454 people were killed in incidents involving rifles, whereas 657 were killed in incidents involving “personnel weapons.” Personnel weapons are categorized as “hands, fists, feet, etc.”

AWR Hawkins of Breitbart Newsnotes, “The UCR figures show a similar situation occurred in 2019, when 375 people were killed with rifles but 639 were killed with ‘hands, fists, feet, etc.’”

Hawkins also adds, “The number of people killed with ‘hands, fists, feet, etc.,’ was more than twice the number killed with rifles of all kinds.”

On top of that, “The UCR also shows more than 3.5 times more people were stabbed to death in 2020 than were killed with rifles. The UCR shows that 454 people were shot and killed with rifles in 2020 while 1,732 were stabbed or hacked to death with ‘knives or cutting instruments’.”

Indeed, there is a large degree of hysteria regarding rifles, and all firearms for that matter. The anti-gun Left has made it a point to argue that increased gun ownership leads to more crime, however, the facts don’t bear that out. For example, the past three decades have witnessed America embrace higher degrees of gun ownership. Even with this surge, crime rates have not skyrocketed. In fact, Mark Perry, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, noted that from 1993 to 2013 per capita gun ownership increased by 56 percent, with gun violence concurrently dropping by 49 percent.

While there has been a rise in violence over the past year, it’s way too simplistic to pin the blame exclusively on increased gun ownership. Many cities nationwide have been implementing policies directed at gutting law enforcement and limiting police’s ability to crack down on crime. As a result, a generalized environment of crime has taken root across major urban centers. No amount of gun control will prevent crime from rising when non-existent policing standards are becoming the norm in the US.

At the end of the day, criminals don’t give a hoot about the law and will find every way possible to prey on the innocent, and they will have greater ease to do so when people are disarmed. Busybody politicians continue to ignore this uncomfortable fact at their constituents’ peril.
