Four DC Police Officers Present at the Capitol Protest Commit Suicide

Four DC Metropolitan Police officers, who responded to the January 6 Capitol demonstrations reportedly have died by suicide. Officer Gunther Hashida was found dead in his residence on July 29. Although he had specialized training and war experience, media reports imply that he succumbed to stress following the event. Officer Kyle DeFreytag, who served in the Fifth District, was found dead on July 10. In January, United States Capitol Police officer Howard Liebengood and Officer Jeffrey Smith who also were present at the Capitol were reported to have died by suicide in the following days.During a hearing before the House investigative panel last month, Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn claimed that Trump supporters used racial slurs against him and that he was more frightened during the January 6 riot than during his deployment in Iraq. Dunn has a history of anti-Trump sentiments and he  tacitly supported the BLM riots in Kenosha. He urged officers who defended the Capitol to seek professional help if they need it. -GEG

Four D.C. Metropolitan Police police officers who responded to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot have died by suicide, according to the WUSA9, a CBS affiliate in the city.

Driving the news: Officer Kyle DeFreytag, who served in the Fifth District and responded to the Capitol riot, was found dead on July 10. DeFreytag joined the department in 2016, per CNN.
