Make progressives live with progressive policies

A few weeks ago, the banter of livid liberals filled social media; circulating rumors that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s provocative move to fly a handful of illegal migrants to Martha’s Vineyard was tantamount to human trafficking, and that it was only a matter of time before he was behind bars.

Daring and brave progressive keyboard warriors across the fruited plain courageously tagged the FBI and Justice Department as they symbolically wept through their phone screens. All this was done on behalf of desperate and impoverished migrants who were, at that very same moment, smiling on television while thanking Governor DeSantis for sending them to a swanky resort island rather than leaving them to huddle in a detention facility with countless others.

Anybody not looking through their preferred partisan blinders could see it was both a political and electoral masterclass by DeSantis. Not only did it focus a national spotlight on President Biden’s dereliction of duty at the southern border just months before the midterm elections, but it also called the bluff of every boisterous, braggadocious, virtue-signaling progressive legislator, mayor, and governor previously far-removed from the crisis.

Demonstrating exactly why The View’s Sunny Hostin complained recently that DeSantis is dangerously smart, the Florida governor – along his counterpart, Texas Governor Greg Abbott – set the trap. And from Chicago’s bumbling Mayor Lori Lightfoot to New York City’s Eric Adams, these progressive leaders can’t fall into it fast enough.

Keep in mind it was almost exactly one year ago that Adams was tweeting,

‘We should protect our immigrants.’ Period. Yes, New York City will remain a sanctuary city under an Adams administration.

Now, just 12 months later, Adams reveals what thinking people already knew – those silly proclamations are politics, not policy. They are virtue signaling pomposity, not plans. They are for rhetorical consumption only, not strategies or programs intended to actually do something beneficial for anyone in need.

To any person capable of experiencing shame, think about the embarrassment that should bring. An “asylum city” created no plan to welcome actual “asylum seekers”? And keep in mind, the “thousands” of migrants that Adams complains about is only a mere fraction of the number his city would receive if they were picking up their “fair share” of the burden being carried by much smaller border cities.

It’s hard to imagine that as Adams publicly laments how his city never agreed “to take on the job of supporting thousands of asylum seekers,” DeSantis, Abbott, and every border town official across the American Southwest couldn’t fight the wry smiles creeping across their faces.

Whether it’s wasteful electric car gambits, unmercifully high tax burdens which yield ineffective programs, green energy-provoked spikes in gas prices, gender theory-endorsed misogyny, or an open borders approach that results in a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions, one fact remains…

The best way to turn people against progressivism is simply to allow them to live with its consequences.
