Jose Sanchez, 47, called police to report a delayed assault and ends up getting arrested after police noticed he owned the car wanted in a hit and run that left a man in critical condition.

The hit and run occurred early Thursday morning in the 600 block of West Broward Boulevard in the City of Fort Lauderdale. Police say Daniel Driscoll, 53, was trying to cross West Broward Boulevard, not at a crosswalk, when the side view mirror of a car hit him. The driver did not stop.

Driscoll suffered life threatening injuries and was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center where is listed in critical condition.

18-hours later, Jose Sanchez called the Fort Lauderdale Police Department to report a delayed assault. When officers arrived at his home in Fort Lauderdale, they noticed his green Honda Civic had damage that matched the hit and run suspect’s car.

Homicide detectives were called out to the scene, and it was determined that the parts recovered at the crime scene, did in fact, belong to Sanchez’s car.

Sanchez was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and tampering with evidence.
