Multiple Meta services, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Threads, and Facebook are experiencing a widespread outage, including users in the US, India and Israel. According to reports, users of the applications may not be able to access their messages or experience extremely long wait times.

One outlet reported that the outages appeared to affect both the desktop and mobile versions of the platforms. It is currently unknown what is causing the outage.

Several users across Bluesky, X, and Reddit have shown photos of users getting error messages when trying to access their messages. On Facebook, it simply says “We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”

Downdectector, a helpful site that allows people to track internet outages, showed a massive spike in reports for Instagram around 1:00 pm with almost 70,000 people reporting the problem. The spike is also the same for Facebook and Messenger.

According to the site, 57% of users were having trouble with the app. Many comments on X expressed their fears that their accounts were being hacked.

“Having to come to x to see if Facebook was down or if my account was, “one person posted. “Gotta love coming on Twitter to confirm it’s them and not me getting hacked or something,” a second person said.

“What is happening to Facebook?! am I the only one? am I hacked or something,” stated a third confused person. This is the second time this year that Meta has faced a massive shutdown.

Earlier this year, Meta reported that Facebook, Instagram and Messenger were all experiencing problems. Nearly 1,000 people reported issues with Facebook, mainly while using the mobile app, on Downdetector.com. Some have also said they are having trouble with the Facebook Messenger app.

Around the same number of people are reporting problems with Instagram, too. Someone wrote: “Instagram search feed isn’t loading and I can’t see how many comments are on Instagram reel or when i open comments it only shows 5-7 comments also when i refresh chats it shows some internet error.”
