The French businessman said he planned to give away most of his multi-billion-dollar fortune throughout his life in a pledge similar to those made by fellow billionaires MacKenzie Scott and Bill Gates. Critics have noted that many of the donations from Scott and Gates have been given to organizations supporting leftist agendas including social justice, LGBTQ and climate change.

Bancel also received a 50% merit raise last year, raising his salary to $1.5 million.
