(Support Free Thought) – Broward County, FL — The Free Thought Project archives are full of intolerant, high strung, and downright insidious folks who should have never been granted a badge and a gun as they pose a significant threat to society—even without their authority. One recent example has come across our radar this week epitomizing that notion. His name is Deputy James Cady.

Although the body camera video below was recorded nearly two years ago, it had never seen the light of day until a public defender recently discovered it in January, according to a report in the Miami Herald.The infuriating video shows deputy Cady confront an entirely innocent father, Allen Floyd—holding his 9-month-old son—and immediately become belligerent, aggressive, and eventually violent.

It is important to note that Floyd had not been accused of a crime, had not committed a crime, and was being overly polite to deputy Cady—despite Cady’s aggressive and belligerent tone.

The incident took place at a local hotel at which Floyd’s friend, Johnnymae Dardy was accused of breaking a TV—a claim both Floyd and Dardy say was untrue.

Despite both Dardy and Floyd noting they were the boy’s parents, Cady wanted to take it a step further.

As the video shows Cady is demanding to see Floyd’s ID. Floyd tells the deputy his name and shows that he is the boy’s father by providing pictures on his phone. Dardy also told the deputy Floyd was the boy’s father. As he was not suspected of committing a crime, Floyd had no legal requirement to produce an ID, but the deputy continued to press him anyway.

“OK, fine, I’m going to take her to jail because she’s got a warrant and I’m going to call child services on this kid!” barks the deputy, using his authority to threaten to kidnap a man’s child.

Floyd then attempts to diffuse the situation, but is quickly interrupted by the deputy.

“Quit f—– with me, boy! You hear me? Get your ID! Now!” screams Cady to an entirely innocent, compliant, and polite man whose done absolutely nothing wrong.

“Why are you being so hostile?” Floyd politely asks.

Cady answers, “Because you’re giving me s— and I’m tired of it!”

Cady then says, “I want to know who this baby is going with!” and Floyd replies, “He’s going with me, Allen Floyd.”

At that point, Floyd—well within his rights to do so—stands up and turns to walk away and tells the deputy to “Stop calling me ‘boy!’”

That’s when all hell breaks loose and Cady shoves Floyd, who is still holding his baby, up against the car and appears to begin to choke him. As the deputy chokes Floyd, another deputy, BSO Deputy Debbra Bridgman yanks the baby from his father’s arms.

Together, these two deputies attacked an innocent father—who had done absolutely nothing wrong—and took his baby. Most parents likely would not have been able to remain as calm as Floyd in this situation, however, had he resisted his unlawful assault and child abduction, he likely would have become a hashtag.

No mention of this assault or even deputy Cady’s presence were mentioned in the incident report for this situation. Not until nearly two years later as Broward Public Defender Howard Finkelstein prepared to defend Dardy did the truth come out.

“Deputy Cady’s verbal assault coupled with him choking an otherwise cooperative bystander can only be characterized as unlawful touching,” Finkelstein wrote in a letter to newly appointed Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony. “In addition, Deputy Cady’s use of the term “boy” is offensive, condescending and demeaning. It carries racial connotations when used while addressing an adult black male.”

“Thank you for bringing this matter that occurred in July 2017 to my attention. A cursory search of our system shows that no complaint was made prior to receiving your letter,” Tony replied. “Our Division of Internal Affairs will provide you with a response upon conducting a thorough examination.”

Any actual accountability will likely never come as Cady already has a history of false arrests and abuse and has faced no consequences. Proving this notion is the fact that the video below clearly shows Cady assault an innocent father while holding his baby and Cady is still on patrol.
