The new $900-billion, 5,593-page stimulus Covid-19 relief package was rammed through Congress on Monday, and both chambers passed it without a single member reading all of its contents. The pork-filled bill includes $600 for each adult and dependent in America. ‘Mixed-status’ households, where eligible citizens live with illegal immigrants, also will receive payments and can retroactively claim benefits after being left out of the last round. Unemployment benefits will be extended from 26 to 50 weeks. Examples of pork in the package include $325-billion for small businesses; $69-billion for vaccines, tests and tracing; $3.3-billion in grants to Israel; $1.3-billion to Egypt; $1.4-billion for an ‘Asian Reassurance Initiative Act’; $135-million to Burma; $130-million to Nepal; and $10-million to “gender programs” in Pakistan. President Trump sent the bill back to Congress saying he would veto it unless the stimulus checks are increased from $600 to $2,000, unless some (not all) of the pork is cut.

Senator Rand Paul urged Congress not to pass the “monstrous” bill because of the dire consequences to future generations. He said the government brought in $3.3-trillion last year but spent $6.6-trillion. The deficit under George Bush went from $5-trillion to $10-trillion; under Obama it went from $10 to $20-trillion; and it stands today at $27 trillion. Every tax-paying American now owes $136,000, with no end in sight. Heavy debt destroys economic growth. Bailouts perpetuate the COVID lockdowns that are killing the economy. -GEG

As Congress prepares to pass a $900 billion COVID-19 stimulus bill rolled into a consolidated appropriations package – with funding for assistance for households and businesses, along with vaccine distribution and other pandemic-related measures, the bill also includes a ton of pork per usual.

We already know about the $600 checks for each adult and dependent. This time, however, ‘mixed-status’ households where eligible citizens live with illegal immigrants, will not only receive payments – they can retroactively claim benefits after being left out of the last round.

And now, on to the pork… which includes billions to foreign countries, US military weapons purchases which go above and beyond their budgets, $40 million for the Kennedy Center, and nearly $200 million so that federal HIV/AIDS workers overseas can buy cars and car insurance, among other things.
