Former congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul called for the firing of Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, and called him a “fraud.”

“He should be fired, but if you don’t do it in the literal sense, the people have to fire him,” the Texas Republican said on his show. “They have to fire him by saying, ‘He’s a fraud.’”

“The plan that they have is when things are getting back to normal, yes, people can return to their work, and they do things and go to the golf course if they get a stamp of approval,” Paul added. “Your liberties are there if you get a proper stamp from the government.”

Paul posted the opinion on Twitter along with a video clip from his internet TV show.

Paul previously suggested the coronavirus was a “big hoax” and the actual “danger of the disease massively exaggerated by those who seek to profit — financially or politically — from the ensuing panic.”

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, reportedly got into an argument with White House economic adviser Peter Navarro over hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug that has shown signs of improving symptoms of some coronavirus patients.

Fauci insists there is no “strong” evidence that the drug can treat the coronavirus. Navarro has called for a “second opinion.”

Radio host Rush Limbaugh accused Fauci of undercutting the president when he appeared to make a gesture to ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl on the way out of a coronavirus briefing.
