WHAT DID PRESIDENT TRUMP* MEAN?

How often do we hear people say, “You know what I mean.”?   Or, “Well, we know what he means.”?  Mind readers abound, it seems. No, we can only know what you say, not what you mean, so mean what you say, and say what you mean.

For what (if anything) it’s worth, SNOPES has reported on a President Trump Truth Social posting.

President Trump posted:

A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.  I don’t want

that to happen, but it probably will.  However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail,

maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?  We will

find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex

history of the World.  47 [Forty-seven] years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end.

God Bless the Great People of Iran!

If we take what the President says and parse it, (as words having meaning, unlike most liberal hopes), we might discover what he is saying.  Rather than go word by word, I will recapitulate, in brief.  (Brevity is not my specialty, so, let us hope.)

First, let us define the term civilization.  If we search “civilization” using www.Bing.com we find:

Civilization, noun

1. the stage of human social and cultural development and organization that is considered most advanced:  “they equated the railroad with progress and civilization”

suggested similar words [formerly synonyms?] advancement, progress, etc.

With that in mind, may I suggest that President Trump’s words differed not significantly from a common phrase we’ve heard many times before, and, since President Trump did not use it, was generally not considered loaded with an implicit threat/hope of mass murder, genocide, rain on your picnics, 7-10 splits, human decimation and destructive megalomaniacal fantasy.

I recapitulate:  [If the Iranian leaders do not come to terms with me] they will find their country “bombed back to the stone age.”  (I must add, some careless people joke that they would need to be bombed FORWARD to the stone age, but that’s certainly not the state of all aspects of their culture, their state of civilization.  I understand they have modern bridges, buildings, water treatment, etc.)  Bombing a civilization “back to the stone age,” has always been understood to mean infrastructure- not population- decimation.  (Admittedly, still a horror.  I suppose that is why the President is hoping for something revolutionarily wonderful instead.)

*  Like it or not, whether or not you find it inappropriate, President Trump is quite possibly the greatest troller in history; and it is so easy to troll people who let their hate, especially illogical, undeserved hate, control them.  He specializes, it seems to me, in my never humble opinion, in feeding rope.
