Sir Michael Caine BACKS Brexit as he hits out at EU’s ‘faceless dictators’

FILM legend Sir Michael Caine today backed a British exit from the European Union as he railed against being “dictated to by thousands of faceless civil servants”.
The 82-year-old actor called on the UK to cut ties with Brussels unless there are “extremely significant changes” to the 28-country bloc.
David Cameron is currently attempting to win a series of reforms from Europe ahead of a promised in/out referendum on Britain’s EU membership, but Tory MPs have been left to attack his demands for not going far enough.
Asked whether he would back Brexit at the upcoming vote, Sir Michael told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I don’t know what to vote for. Both are scary.
“To me, you’ve now got in Europe a sort of government-by-proxy of everybody, who has now got carried away.
“Unless there is some extremely significant changes, we should get out.”
Sir Michael dismissed scaremongering over the effects of Brexit from those determined to keep Britain in the EU, as he pointed out to the fact the UK imports more from the EU than it exports to the bloc.
He said: “Well, OK, so you fail. Get better, work harder, try harder and you’ll be a success.
“But you cannot be dictated to by thousands of faceless civil servants who make these rules.
“Then they argue about it financially but we buy more from them than we sell to them.”
The south London-born actor voted for Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair and David Cameron and said his rise a working-class background to Hollywood millionaire allowed him to “know every problem from every angle”.
He said: “I’m a middle-of-the-road politician. I have been poor, I have been on the dole, I have worked in factories and I am a multi-millionaire, I have paid heavy taxes.
“So I know every problem from every angle and not many people are like that.
“The last time I queued up for benefits, Sean Connery was two guys in front of me.”
A jubilant Ukip leader Nigel Farage responded on Twitter: “I welcome @themichaelcaine’s support for £Brexit. Let’s blow the bloody doors off!” Leave.EU campaign spokesman Brian Monteith said: “You couldn’t hope for a better celebrity endorsement than Sir Michael Caine.
“He’s quite right that we shouldn’t be ‘dictated to’ by the men who would be kings in Brussels, and we hope his backing will help to persuade voters that there’s a positive, prosperous future for the UK as an independent, free-standing democracy.”
Speaking ahead of the Grassroots Out campaign, Mr Farage said he welcomed the way parties were uniting to get Britain out of the EU.
One of the MP’s organising the event, Mr Pursglove, said: “This launch will be an historic event, bringing together political foes, who are willing to put aside their differences for the common good. “We are all united in our commitment to work at grassroots level to get the United Kingdom out of the European Union.”
