He was ruthlessly attacked by the liberal media for his handling of the Coronavirus outbreak.
They called him everything but a murderer.
But now, this Republican Governor is exposing just how hypocritical the mainstream media has become.
Aside from President Donald Trump, the biggest target the mainstream media focused on last year was none other than Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
After wrongly predicting he would lose the state’s gubernatorial election back in 2018, the media almost immediately used the coronavirus outbreak as an excuse to attack DeSantis’ leadership as Governor of Florida.
When he refused to impose draconian lockdowns on Florida’s economy or hand out unconstitutional executive orders shutting down churches and small businesses, most left-wing news outlets viciously attacked Desantis for virtually killing the people of his own state.
The attacks grew to the point that DeSantis became a household name by the end of the year.
What’s more, while DeSantis received overwhelmingly negative coverage for his handling of the pandemic, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was praised to the stars by most in the press, including his own brother who hosts a show on CNN.
This was done in spite of the fact that Cuomo’s administration continued to send elderly New Yorkers who tested positive for the virus back into nursing homes, spiking cases among the most vulnerable demographic.
This decision ultimately killed hundreds, if not thousands, of New Yorkers, and only recently was exposed when a whistleblower came forward to reveal what Cuomo’s team had been doing for the better part of a year.
Yet very little criticism was leveled against Cuomo by the media, who continued to focus their attacks on DeSantis.
But now, the Florida Governor appears to be the one having the last laugh.
“Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis took a victory lap for his leadership on the coronavirus during the opening speech of the Conservative Political Action Conference,” reports the Washington Examiner.
“Under DeSantis, Florida shied away from economic lockdowns and strict gathering limits, in contrast to other states, led by Democratic and Republican governors, that used both tools to mitigate the health risks posed by a pandemic that is nearly a year old. As a result, Florida has seen an influx of new residents, and its economy has been more resilient than in other states.”
DeSantis took to the stage at the annual CPAC conference to tout his state’s success in dealing with the virus.
“Florida got it right, and the lockdown states got it wrong,” the Florida governor said.
“We cannot, we will not, go back to the days of the failed Republican establishment of yesteryear. The question is: When the klieg lights get hot, when the Left comes after you, will you stay strong or will you fold?” DeSantis asked.
“The governor, mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2024, also used his remarks to urge assembled conservative activists to reject the Republican establishment and told them they had to be prepared to stand strong in the face of political pressure from Democrats and the Left,” adds the Washington Examiner.
DeSantis is set to face re-election in 2022, in a race in which he is heavily favored to win.
