A so-called “marching” band committed a personal foul against the Baptist college its team was playing recently when it took the field to mock the other school’s biblical stance on sexuality.

Undefeated Baylor took the field at Rice Stadium in Houston on September 21 to face the winless Owls. The game went as pretty much as expected with the Baylor Bears coming out on top 21-13 to avoid an upset and remain undefeated through three games.

What some people found upsetting, however, occurred during halftime when the Marching Owl Band – a.k.a. the “MOB” – had dozens of students storm the field with various flags celebrating sexual disorders while playing the “gay” anthem YMCA made famous by the disco group Village People.

The MOB was trying to mock Baylor because the Baptist college refuses to bend to LGBT pressure and compromise its biblical stance on sexuality. But instead, says Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, the band betrayed its own spiritual rebellion.

LaBarbera, Peter

“Pride is a sin – so they’re going to spell out sin, pride, with their band and basically celebrate a sin?” he wonders. “It’s just growing so tiresome, this sort of virtue signaling by the left – and I think the average Joe and Jane in America are just sick of it.”

But the pro-family activist says the trend seems far from over at American colleges and universities.

“It’s sort of a giant cliché,” LaBarbera acknowledges, “and it’s becoming like the Soviet Union used to be where you have to think a certain way.”

The MOB describes itself as being a “marching” band in name only that has a reputation of “satirizing whatever deserves it.” It also agrees with those who say the band is “tacky, distasteful, shameless, offensive.”
