Officials within the White House are reportedly panicking as they attempt to find a solution to lower gas prices, as President Trump’s war with Iran continues to drive up prices.
Reports indicate that Trump’s Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, is telling staffers to start bringing in ideas to lower the price of gasoline for the average American. Two energy officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that federal officials are leaving no stone unturned.
The White House is “looking under every rock for ideas on improving energy prices, especially gasoline prices,” said one of the executives. The attacks on Iran, which have since spilled over into the Persian Gulf’s energy sector, have driven oil barrel costs up to $10 per barrel.

It was reported that the ensuing rise in barrel prices has led to an uptick at the pump, making gas prices the highest they have been under Trump. Another executive revealed that Energy Secretary Chris Wright and other advisers focused on energy policy, including a council led by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, “are getting screamed at to find some good news.”
“Folks are scrambling for announcements and messaging to counter the narrative” about rising prices, according to the source. It was reported that various ideas, such as a tax on gas during the holiday season.

This idea, however, seems to be a last resort, as it would immediately help combat rising prices and would require action from Congress. However, it’s not clear whether oil refiners and gas stations would pass the savings along to drivers or pocket them.
Other officials have suggested that the U.S. Military be deployed to defend energy infrastructure in the Middle East. This scenario is also unlikely to sit well with officials from Saudi Arabia, who were not a fan of having U.S. troops on their land.
Wright, who has been the loudest in supporting Trump’s move to attack Iran, took to social media to champion his boss’ cause but hasn’t mentioned how it’s affecting energy prices. “That’s on purpose,” a third executive said after they talked to the White House after news of the attack broke.
According to the executive, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other Trump officials were leading the planning of the Iran attack, and asked those who would normally have oil prices in mind to take a back seat. “The faction of the White House that would care about $80-90 oil [was] being silenced,” they said.

“There [were] louder voices winning at the moment,” the executive added. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told the Express U.S. the claims were mere gossip.
“As usual, POLITICO wrote sensationalist, unverified gossip for clicks. Nobody is panicking. Thanks to President Trump’s leadership in his first term and current term, the United States remains the largest crude oil and natural gas producer in the world,” she said. “President Trump’s entire energy team, from the White House to the National Energy Dominance Council to Secretaries Wright and Bessent, have a game plan to keep oil prices stable throughout Operation Epic Fury.”
“The Trump Administration will continue to unleash American energy dominance, tap into newfound oil markets in Venezuela, and in addition, President Trump has already announced the United States Development Finance Corporation will provide political risk insurance, at a very reasonable price, for crude carriers and cargo ships operating in and around the Gulf,” Leavitt said. “The President has also stated if necessary, the United States Navy will begin escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.”
