Two Round Rock Independent School District trustees and a Round Rock school board candidate are hosting a fundraiser featuring drag queens for an Austin City Council candidate.

Trustees Chuy Zarate and Tiffanie Harrison, an outspoken advocate of critical race theory, and trustee candidate Melissa Ross are all listed on the host committee.

The event will feature “Brigette Bandit,” a female drag queen (a woman dressed like a man dressed like a woman) who recently gave a controversial speech at the Texas Democrat convention.

Notably missing from the fundraiser’s advertisement is an age limit.

Conservative Round Rock ISD Trustee Mary Bone called attention to that fact and questioned how this decision may impact future decisions by Round Rock ISD’s left-leaning trustees.

Will your child’s school library be next to host a Drag event? Is this the direction Round Rock ISD is heading in November when the only two conservatives, Danielle Weston and me, complete our term?

The Austin City Council candidate Krista Laine, the recipient of the funds raised, is challenging the sole conservative Austin City Councilmember Mackenzie Kelly in the November election for the northwest Austin district.

The event will be held in downtown Austin, rather than inside the district. Furthermore, hosting the event at 11 am on a Sunday, when many District Six residents will attend church, sends a message.

The host committee also reveals additional details, with former councilmember Jimmy Flannigan, who represented the district in question from 2017 to 2021, also listed as a host. During his time in office, Flannigan was an outspoken advocate of the City of Austin’s disastrous homeless camping policy and defunding the police. Flannigan lost his re-election bid in 2020.

State Rep. John Bucy (D-Austin) is similarly illustrative. Bucy gained notoriety when he spoke in favor of allowing men to compete in women’s boxing during a debate on the house floor in 2023.

Election day is November 5.
