Balfour Agreement: Death Knoll to Palestinian State Aspirations

November 2, 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, whereby, British Foreign Secretary, Lord Alfred Balfour wrote a letter to Lord Rothschild. In this letter, Balfour assured Lord Rothschild that “His Majesty’s government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.” The conditional clause at the end of the declaration “it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine” was completely ignored by 1948, at the time of the founding of Israel. This is evidenced by the fact that over 750,000 Palestinians were forced from their homes, while around 500 of their villages were destroyed by the Zionists. The slick 70 second video (posted below) observing the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, made by Christians United For Israel, conveniently, does not include the reading of the conditional Palestinian clause.
