FIRST THE GOVERNMENT CAME FOR…

First they came for the unborn
and I didn’t speak up because I had been born,
Then they came for churchgoers,
and I didn’t speak up because I couldn’t believe they’d do that,
Then they came for the elderly sick, by putting people known to have COVID 19 into nursing homes with the vulnerable,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t in a nursing home,
Then they came for anybody for whom they could get a FEDGOV reimbursement of $17,000 or, better yet, ventilate someone for $39,000,
and I didn’t speak up because I didn’t get taken to a hospital,
Then they came for the hairdressers,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a hairdresser,
Then they came for people playing in the parks,
and I didn’t speak up, because I didn’t play in parks,
Then they came for surfers,
and I didn’t speak up because I don’t surf,
Then they came for the restaurateurs,
and I didn’t speak up because I’m not a restaurateur,
Then they came for whoever was behind the door during the execution of a no-knock warrant,
and I didn’t speak up because it hadn’t happened to me,
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.
[Please, can we all insert the following somewhere before “Then they came for me,”]
Then we, the people, came for justice…
