The UK’s Women and Equalities Minister Kemi Badenoch recently delivered a powerful message slamming the Black Lives Matter movement and teaching critical race theory in schools. She argues that these ideologies have no place in school systems.
“What we are against is the teaching of contested political ideas as if they are accepted fact. We don’t do this with communism, we don’t do this with socialism, we don’t do it with capitalism — and I want to speak about a dangerous trend in race relations that has come far too close to home to my life, and it’s the promotion of Critical Race Theory, an ideology that sees my blackness as victimhood and their whiteness as oppression,” Badenoch said.
Badenoch addressed these issues during a general debate on Black History Month where she argued that the government should not be teaching children about “white privilege and their inherited racial guilt.” She said that teaching white privilege as a fact is against the law and brought up these issues after her daughter came home from school saying that she is learning Black History month because every other month is about white history.
“This is wrong and this is not what our children should be picking up. These are not the values I have taught her,” Badenoch said.
She also argued that history is colonized and taught to make one group of people feel inferior and another group of people feel superior. Badenoch talked about schools having a statutory duty to remain politically impartial and should not feel open to supporting an anti-capitalist political movement.
While the media portrays this as a completely wholesome anti-racist organization, there are a lot of partisan political views being projected, such as defunding the police. They promote these sides and justify breaking the law without offering a balanced treatment of opposing views.
The Equalities Minister made her points quite clear. Black Lives Matter and Critical Race Theory are purely political and do not belong in schools. All it does is make children hyper-aware of race, creating division, intolerance, and self-loathing. It teaches racism to be involved in everything and contains a powerful message to not let schools be infected by the extreme left.
