The US and NATO designed Paris attacks as a “false flag” to enter the Syrian war, says an American analyst.

“This was a false flag attack,” Paul Craig Roberts said of the Friday night’s Paris attacks that killed 132 people. “It does not serve ISIL, but it does serve the Western political establishment.”

Daesh, which controls parts of Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, has claimed responsibility for the terror strikes.

“An attack of this sort is extremely sophisticated and is beyond the capability of ISIL,” the analyst told Press TV Monday.

“I think the story was false. I do not think that refugees can smuggle automatic weapons and bombs into European countries,” he said.

Roberts, a former assistant secretary of the US treasury, noted that the ruling parties in Western countries like the US and France are using the attacks as an excuse to close their borders on refugees, while also undermining their opponents.

“[Western] establishment political parties have supported Washington’s wars in the Middle East, which have resulted in millions of refugees flowing into Europe” which has discredited them, Roberts added.

Shortly after the devastating attacks on November 13, French President Francois Hollande said he would close the country’s borders.

The French administration is also tempted to invoke Article 5 of the North Atlantic North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which describes an attack on one of the members as an attack against all.

If invoked, the article would pave the way for an all-out NATO involvement in the fight.

Roberts said the “false flag” is likely to be used as an excuse for NATO’s prompt invasion of Syria, which will in turn put it against Russia which has been running its own campaign against the group since late September.

“What this means is a confrontation between NATO and Russia and of course, Washington will use a NATO invasion against [Syrian President] Basher al-Assad,” said Roberts.

Washington says it is impossible for the Syrian conflict to end in peace, unless Assad steps down.
