Africa could soon become borderless with the introduction of an African passport that would encourage free trade.
African Union Commissioner on Political Affairs, Aisha Laraba Abdullahi, said part of Agenda 2063 was to see free movement for Africans.
He was speaking at the Africities summit in Sandton yesterday.
Agenda 2063 is a call to action to African society to work together to build a prosperous and united Africa based on shared values and a common destiny.
“We have identified flagship projects, for example, [the introduction] of an African passport to ensure that Africans can move freely to every African state,” she said.
But economists have warned that poor ports and logistics infrastructure were constraints to trade.
