FOOD BANKS ARE OVERRUN AS DEMAND SPIKES IN COVID-HOT SPOTS

NEW YORK, NY (April 9, 2020) – 6.6 million more Americans filed for unemployment last week as nonessential layoffs continue to mean hard times for tens-of-millions of Americans during the coronavirus pandemic in the nation’s business hubs like New York and Los Angeles.  Jean Shafiroff, philanthropist working with food banks and kitchens throughout New York City, is available to discuss how food pantries, charities, and nonprofits are seeing massive losses amidst financial uncertainties while demand for their services.   Many nonprofits are operating with little or no reserves, loss of earned revenue impacts cash flow.  Food Banks have been overrun by demand as food banks are tasked with handling a nationwide crisis. Feeding America, the nation’s largest network of food bank, project a $1.4 billion shortfall in the next six months alone.
