During a White House press conference with Netanyahu, Trump turned truth on its head, calling Israel “a symbol to the world of resilience in the face of oppression.”
He praised its nonexistent “open democracy in the face of violence” it alone instigates against defenseless Palestinians and other regional states.
He expressed disturbing hostility toward Iran, a peaceful nation threatening no one. He ludicrously called America and Israel “two nations that cherish the value of all human life.”
Claiming to support Israeli/Palestinian peace, he said both sides “must directly negotiate such an agreement” – what never worked for nearly half a century, guaranteed to fail again.
The only resolution acceptable to Israel is unconditional Palestinian surrender, yielding nothing in return, a repeat of the failed Oslo process, a Palestinian Versailles by any standard, isolating them in cantonized open-air prisons, surrounded by hostile settlements, brutalized by Israeli viciousness.
Trump: “I want the Israeli people to know that the United States stands with Israel in the struggle against terrorism.”
Fact: Its worst of all unmentioned variety is state-sponsored. The other kind is supported by America, NATO, Israel and allied rogue states.
Netanyahu: “(O)ur alliance (with America) is based on a deep bond of common values and common interests. And, increasingly, those values and interests are under attack by one malevolent force: radical Islamic terror.”
Fact: US/Israeli “values” and “interests” threaten humanity’s survival. No two nations represent a more “malevolent force.”
Fact: Both are the world’s most reviled and feared. Both foster endless conflicts and instability. Peace is anathema to their agendas.
Trump duplicitously called what happened to Michael Flynn “very unfair.” He sacked him, an act of betrayal, scuttling hopes for improved relations with Russia and curtailing US imperial wars.
“I’d like to see you hold back on settlements for a little bit,” he told Netanyahu, a meaningless throwaway statement. “We’ll work something out. But I would like to see a deal be made. I think a deal will be made,” he said.
Fact: Settlement construction never stopped before. It won’t now. The only possible “deal” will be devastating for Palestinian rights and regional peace.
Trump said he’s “looking at” a two-state v. a one-state solution, adding he “like(s) the one that both parties like. I can live with either one.”
With Israel controlling the vast majority of historic Palestine, one state for all its people alone is best for Palestinians – even though they’d continue being treated as second-class citizens under ruthless apartheid rule.
As for moving America’s embassy to Jerusalem, Trump said “we’ll see what happens.” The move appears off the table, given the regional firestorm it would cause.
Netanyahu repeated the long-ago discredited canard about Palestinians seeking Israel’s destruction.
Long ago they expressed willingness to accept statehood within June 1967 borders, 22% of their historic land along with East Jerusalem as their exclusive capital – ideas Israel categorically rejects.
Netanyahu wants their homeland exclusively for Jews, longstanding ethnic cleansing ongoing to assure it.
Palestinians are marginalized, brutalized and slaughtered at Israel’s whim, making peaceful conflict resolution impossible.
Israel has a strong ally in Trump. Palestinians have no friends in Washington, the way it’s always been with rare profiles in courage exceptions like former congresswoman Cynthia McKinney.
There’s no one like her in Congress today.
