Former President Donald Trump shared a number of social media posts pitching him to be speaker of the House on Wednesday following Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) ouster, including an article which called McCarthy a “TRAITOR.”
In one Truth Social post, Trump shared an edited photo of himself holding the speaker’s gavel.
Hours later, Trump shared two posts from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) endorsing him to be speaker, as well as a clip of former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon expressing support for the idea.
“Given that Trump is essentially the nominee, who better to bring this party together and to do it now?” said Bannon in the clip from his show War Room, which Trump shared.
Trump also promoted an article written by former Libertarian Party vice presidential nominee Wayne Root, which expressed support for a Trump speakership and attacked McCarthy as a “TRAITOR.”
UPDATE: Trump has now promoted two additional articles pitching him as the next speaker, including one from Wayne Root in the Gateway Pundit that repeatedly savages McCarthy and calls
him a “traitor.” pic.twitter.com/56gp0lFzLK— Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) October 5, 2023
“I trust no House Speaker to actually support Trump for President in 2024. House Speaker Trump is the only one I trust to support Presidential candidate Trump,” wrote Root in the article. “Good riddance to McCarthy. Don’t let the door hit you in the a–s on the way out. Get lost. You’re finished. Adios. In the words of Trump, ‘YOU’RE FIRED!’”
Fox News host Sean Hannity claimed on Tuesday that a group of House Republicans were attempting to draft Trump as speaker and that Trump was “open” to the idea.
Several representatives have already expressed support for a Trump speakership, including Greene, Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX), and even House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), who — despite being a frontrunner for the speakership himself — said Trump would “be great” in the role.
