Two people were shot dead in a Walmart in Mississippi on Tuesday by a disgruntled ex-employee who was suspended a day earlier for pulling a knife on a customer.
The unnamed shooter opened fire on coworkers at the Walmart in Southaven, a city southeast of Memphis on the state line between Tennessee and Mississippi, at 6.45am.
He killed two people before police arrived and engaged him in gunfire.
The suspect was then shot twice by officers and was taken into custody. He was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery.

According to WREG, he was suspended from the store for pulling a knife on a customer the day before.
It is not clear why he was not fired for the incident.
The shooting began at 6.45am on Tuesday when multiple people who were outside the 24-hour store called 911 reporting an active shooter.
Employees held hands in the parking lot and prayed afterwards. Police have not yet confirmed what the shooter’s motives were.
There were 60 people inside the store when the shooting began and police also received reports that the suspect had set a fire in the building.
When they arrived, they found the suspect in the parking lot.
One of the police officers was shot in the chest but was saved by his bullet proof vest.
The shooting happened on Tuesday at a Walmart in the town of Southaven which sits on the northeast state line between Tennessee and Mississippi.
The suspect was shot and a police officer was injured. The identity of the person who was killed has not yet been released
