The senior student from Detroit Northwestern High School who suffered cardiac arrest from playing basketball last week has passed away.

Fox 2 Detroit learned via a relative on Monday that 18-year-old Cartier Woods died while at Henry Ford Hospital. He had been on life support there since January 31.

Cartier did not have any known heart conditions or significant medical ailments. The cause of his collapse and death is unknown at this time.

Cartier’s family were holding out hope for a miraculous recovery. They recently held a vigil for Cartier, where a large group of loved ones and friends prayed for him.

Family members also asked the public for support. They even started a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for Cartier’s medical bills.

“He was very healthy – he loved basketball,” said Shantell Woods, his cousin to FOX 2 last week. “He was very amenable, respectful. We’re just asking for prayer – we need it.”

“He was a very good person,” his aunt, Dwanda Woods said. “He’d give anybody anything, if he had it.”

The Gateway Pundit previously reported Cartier suddenly collapsed during a game against Detroit Douglass.

Before falling down, he told his head coach George Tyson he felt dizzy three minutes after the contest started and needed to come out.

Douglass head coach Pierre Brooks then reported hearing a “big bang” while watching the action on the court.

“I heard a big bang and I thought it might be a fight or something,” Brooks said. “I looked over and it was Cartier that fell out and Coach Tyson jumped to action.

Medical personnel arrived within 10 minutes to perform CPR on Cartier after he collapsed. They continued for 40-60 minutes before Cartier was transported to Henry Ford hospital, where he ultimately died.

Let’s hope the Woods family receives the full truth regarding Cartier’s passing. These deaths are not normal.
