A socialist lawmaker in San Francisco, California, announced on Tuesday a proposal to prohibit armed security guards from drawing their weapons to defend against property theft.

“I will be calling for legislation to specifically prohibit security guards from drawing their weapons to protect property,” District 5 County Supervisor Dean Preston said in a video posted to Twitter.

“Human life is more important than property. We need to change local law so that security guards cannot unholster weapons just to protect property.”

Preston’s introduction of the bill to restrict the ability of security officers to use their weapons comes in the wake of 24-year-old Banko Brown’s shooting death on April 27, according to a report.

Brown was fatally shot by 33-year-old Michael Earl-Wayne Anthony, a security guard at a local Walgreens.

Anthony was taken in by authorities for questioning but was later released, and San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said he would not face prosecution.

“After careful review of all of the evidence gathered by the San Francisco Police Department in this case, my office will not be pursuing murder charges, at this time, in connection to the shooting,” Jenkins said.

Along with the announcement of his proposal, Preston called for Jenkins to release the footage of Brown’s shooting.
